I think I may be turning American

Came across a new word today - "alliaceous" (pertaining to garlic).
My first instinct was to pronounce it "a-li-AY-shus", but apparently that's the American way.
We're supposed to say "a-LYE-chis".

A newly arrived friend to the US told her new workmates that she was going out to get a hire car.
On her return the conversation went like this:
"So did you get a bigger car?
Huh?
You said you were going out to get a higher car
No, I said I was going to get a hire car"
Americans rent cars.
One word I'll never use in my attempt to get acclimated (pronounce Ahh..clim..aa..ted which sounds worse in a southern drawl) is awesome. I say brill...I have standards

Last week I was in Boots and asked the girl behind the counter for something and then when asking for another item I found myself saying "and can I GET"
Felt so ashamed.
Almost felt the color drain from my face.
